Week #5 – October 15- October 21, 2018
We worked hard this week and got all the records we were
assigned finished by Wednesday! We are
only working with individual documents (flats) and they are easy on our flat
tables to capture the images. Then we
were given records that had not been prepared for capturing….so for example we
had to open envelopes and flatten the records, if there is pins or thread
keeping the papers together we have to get them unattached. Needless to say it is taking longer to get many
images taken. It all has to be done, and
the records that we are handling are amazing – colorful confirmation
certificates, passport like books – we’ve seen a photo included in some of them
that are really great pictures.
Especially if the family doesn’t have a photo of that person, how exciting!
We had to go to a church in Gamlastan (older part of the
city) and bought tickets for the St. Lucia Program in December. A lot of our Senior Missionaries are going
together as a part of our Christmas retreat.
3 days off of work and seeing the sites and traditions of
Christmas.
We also walked to the Family History Center over by the
Palace. They have a Family History
Center there and it is also a Young Single Adults Activity Center. The kids 18-30 gather for different
activities during the week – usually involves a dinner and Home Evening, they
also have an Institute class – one offered in Swedish and one offered in
English. They have quite a large group
that participates.
Our weather is getting cooler – a jacket is needed. We have news from home they have already had
snow and freezing weather – I think we stay between 40* - 60* . When we leave
our house at 6:50am, the sun has not risen yet and when we leave work at 5-5:30
it is almost setting – so we are getting shorter days. But it can rain in the morning sometime and
then clear skies and the sun is out! One
morning riding the bus to the train – it was foggy and it was really a pretty
site.
We attended a Service Project on Saturday at our Ward
chapel. John and the men raked leaves
and bagged them up, and sawed off tree branches of crab apple trees. They are really
pretty but the apples fall on the cars and stain the cars so they don’t want
them hanging over the parking area! I
swept the entry way to the front door and got rid of leaves, weeds, moss, and
stuff off the trees that blow and collect everywhere! There were several ladies inside cleaning the
inside of the building for Sunday. Only
one ward meets in our building. This
weekend a young man is getting baptized on Saturday. There is a set of Sisters and a set of Elders
in our Ward.
We are looking forward to Monday, because we will be getting
to move into our apartment! It will be
nice to be able to unpack and quit living out of suitcases! We were very blessed to be able to stay at
the Mission Office building for the last two weeks. It was very comfortable and warm!
We hope you are all healthy, happy and doing well and
enjoying your families! We miss ours
everyday but are grateful for the technology we have to be able to stay in
touch.
